In-Conversation: Artist Helen Grace with Writer, Curator and Broadcaster, Julie Ewington
Exhibiting artist Helen Grace discusses her film practice with writer and curator Julie Ewington at sydenham international. As old friends, past collaborators and peers, together they will consider Grace’s multidisciplinary career spanning four decades.
Julie Ewington is a writer, curator and broadcaster based on Gadigal Land. An authority on contemporary Australian art, especially art by women, and contemporary art from Southeast Asia. She has held both academic and curatorial positions, always focusing on contemporary art.
Helen Grace is a new media artist, filmmaker, writer and academic whose work has played an active role in the development of art, cinema, photography, cultural studies and education in Australia and regionally for 30 years. Elements of art and politics intertwine in her work as she draws on the past to reflect on the present. Her work has featured issues relating to women in public and private lives and has been instrumental in interrogating the manner of structuring living spaces; the ways of organising working and living within them, and how to exercise freedom in the everyday.
